The editor-in-chief of the journal is Dmitry Konstantinovich Lvov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor, Director of the D.I. Ivanovsky Institute of Virology of RAMS, Head of the Department of Virology, Faculty of Postgraduate Education, Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.

The journal is included in the List of Russian peer-reviewed scientific journals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for publication of the main scientific results of dissertations for the degree of Doctor and Candidate of Sciences.

The magazine acquaints readers with the achievements of Russian and world virology, publishes articles devoted to the study of viruses and viral diseases of humans, animals and plants. A prominent place in the journal is given to the publication of the results of experimental work on various issues of general and private virology. The journal publishes materials that contribute to the implementation of the achievements of virological science in the practice of eliminating and reducing the prevalence of infectious diseases, as well as their diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

Review articles summarize recent advances in virology. In order to attract the attention of virologists to the most pressing issues requiring further study, editorial notes are published in the journal, and books are reviewed. A reader will find in the journal a description of new research methods, methodological techniques, new equipment and devices.
