In 1995, Alexandr Leonidovich Elakov graduated from the Veterinary and Biology Department of K.I. Skryabin Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology with a veterinary and biochemist diploma.

From 1995 to 1998 he studied under the full-time post-graduate program in the Animal Breeding Laboratory of the Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality, Moscow where in 2000 he defended his candidate thesis in specialty 16.00.03 – veterinary microbiology, virology, epizootology, mycology with mycotoxicology and immunology on the topic of Development of the Method of Control over Antigen Activity of Distemper Vaccines and was awarded the candidate of biological sciences degree.

In 1997 through 2000, he worked as a microbiologist in Biocenter LLC where he was involved in production of virus vaccine, diagnostic sets, polyvalent serums and globulins for prevention and treatment of carnivore viral diseases.

In 2000 through 2004, he worked in MosNPO Radon as a researcher and then a senior researcher of the Laboratory of Biological Assessment of Technogenic Environmental Anomalies where he studied the impact of ionizing radiation and heavy metals on animal organisms.

In 2004 through 2011, he worked in the Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality as a senior researcher and then as a lead researcher of the Laboratory of Quality and Standardization of Drugs Against Viral Diseases of Animals – carried out clinical and laboratory tests of rabies vaccines and diagnostic sets as well as the expert examination of documentation for anti-rabies drugs.

Since 2011, he has been working in D.I. Ivanovsky Institute of Virology as a Senior Research Scientist of the Immunology Laboratory.

During his work, Aleksandr Elakov, together with the colleagues, published more than 100 research works in various periodicals (including 28 articles in the Russian and foreign scientific journals), received patent of the Russian Federation for the Rabies Vaccine for Animals No. 2366457.10.09.2009, developed and approved the Russian standards, including the standard of Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality – Reference Rabies Vaccine, the standard of Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality – Reference Rabies Dry Serum, the national standard of the Russian Federation – GOST R 55275-2012 Live Vaccine Against Rabies of Animals, the national standard of the Russian Federation – GOST R 55283-2012 Inactivated Vaccines Against Rabies of Animals, the international standard – GOST 26075-2013 Animals.
